Quicktime events are fun, but sometimes, they're just too over the top. God of War is cool and all, but when everything dies to a quicktime event, it feels drab. I agree with the Shadow of the Colossus style boss. That actually looks really fun.

Castlevania formula has differed so greatly over the years. Platforming action => metroidvania => 3D action. The one thing they do have in common is varying locales. As long as there's more action than ridiculous cutscenes (KOJIMA), I think it'll be good.

And yes, music is important. I'm totally okay with the darker sounding music. Although this one gave me the chills for the longest time: Lost Painting.

I have to agree. I haven't played the 3D Castlevania games, but this looks like it will be good, at least for a rental :D.

Castlevania Circle of the Moon is my favorite Castlevania and will be blogged about in the future. If you love Vampire Killer, may I suggest you listen to Castlevania Dracula X Chronicle (PSP) version which features high quality sounding instruments. This version is very similar to CoTM.

So far it seems kinda like God of War like. You know some of those moves are quick button events. To be honest, that's not a bad model to knock-off when trying to make a 3D action game. That one boss also seemed very reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus, so hopefully that's another source of inspiration. And yeah, Patrick Stewart is awesome. I also agree that Kojima is a mixed blessing; at least we know the game will have high production values. The music in the trailer seemed pretty slick too, though it reminds me more of Dark Knight than the classic Castlevania tunes, which are also pretty slick (one of my personal favorites). Honestly, I think this is a pretty safe bet in terms of good gamage. I just hope it stays true to the Castlevania formula.
